Gaines Clore Wynn
Her work has been selected for numerous national juried competitions, including the Rahr-West Museum, Milwaukee Museum of Art and the purchase award/ commission for the Hewlett Packard Collection. Wynn’s paintings and drawings have been displayed at the National Museum of Women in the Arts, the Phoenix Museum of Art, West Beth Gallery New York and more recently the exhibition “Ten Years of Painting: A Retrospective” at the Bradley Academy of the Visual Arts. Grants include the Loughran Foundation Grant for the development of the Role Model Artist’s Series for Young People, for the National Museum of Women in the Arts. In 1994 the artist was awarded the Presidential Award by the National Art Education Association for being the originator and founder of the National Art Honor Society. This organization now has 1,500 chapters in high schools throughout the United States. The prototype was created by Ms. Wynn at Calvert Senior High School in Prince Frederick, Maryland where she served as chair of the art department in 1975. She has lectured and written educational materials on women artists for the NMWA and is currently serving as consultant to the museum’s national advisory board on African American women artist’s works. The artist has also gained recognition as a curator with art exhibitions with accompanying catalogues at Harvard University, as well as the National Honors Exhibition: Women’s Caucus for Art, NMWA. Other exhibitions which she has recently curated are, “Violence Against Women: Breaking the Silence” as well as “The Artists of ST. Martins: Romare Bearden’s Influence.” Ms. Wynn is listed in Who’s Who in American Women for her work on women’s issues, Who’s Who in the World for her work on a global basis for women artists, Who’s Who in American Education for her work with art education, and Who’s Who in American Art recognizing her accomplishments as a painter. Ms. Wynn is an appointed member of the Maryland State Arts Council. Gaines Clore Wynn was educated at Texas Tech University and Arizona State University, and currently has a painting studio in the Fine Arts District of Mount Rainier, Maryland. She is the Chair of the Fine Arts Department for Charles Herbert Flowers High School in Springdale Maryland. |
